Chapter Two

Jon was walking up to them as Mary was still talking with Ethel. “Well Ethel I want to thank you for everything but I think I really should be getting back I need to explain to my boyfriend some things…” but before Mary could finish her sentence Jon interrupted her.
“What the fuck! You’re here sightseeing and chatting up a storm and didn’t even give me the curiosity of leaving me a note to where you were going to be. And you left the hotel without a body guard! How stupid was that!” Jon yelled.
But before Mary could interject Ethel did. “Young man language Please! And stop yelling at her. She can’t explain to you if you yell at her like that. Didn’t your mother teach you any manners? Mary your description of him was a little over rated don’t you think dear?” Ethel asked her a little surprised that he acted like that.
Mary just cringed. And Jon just stood there opened mouth. “Trust me Ethel he’s not like this all the time. He’s just in his protective mode right now. He knows what could happen if either one of us is recognized.” She explained trying not to crawl under the bench.
“Why are either of you famous?” Ethel asked. She just looked at Jon for an answer. Jon shook his head yes that it was okay to answer her.
“Well I’m not but Jon is. He’s the lead singer in a Rock band that is and it’s named after him. And all the paparazzi and his fans know I’m his girlfriend so when he’s in town they stalk him, his band and they’re girlfriends.” She told her hoping that would at least help a little.
“Oh my that’s terrible, how can you live like that?” Ethel asked.
Mary looked at Jon and said, “Trust me Ethel it’s worth it believe me he’s worth it.”
“Then my dear you have your answer.” Mary just looked back at Ethel and smiled.
“Thank you for everything.” She told her and gave her a hug and a kiss to her cheek.
“Well you take care dear.” Ethel said and walked off.
Jon walked over to her and put his hand on her arm. He looked remorseful for yelling at her but he sent the lot of them out looking for her. Mac had called everyone back in and said that she was found. David told everyone what he had known and they were all fearful that they were going to come back either fighting, separated, or closer than before. You just never knew with them. But when David told them that Jon was livid they were betting that Mary was leaving Jon when they returned and that they were going to have to put up with Hurricane Jon for quite a long time. Back at the park Mac had walked over to them “Excuse me Jon I think we should be getting back now. We’re kinda of attracting attention to ourselves.” He told them. Jon looked around and Mac was right. A group young girls had gathered about one hundred feet and giggling while pointing at them. They were looking ready to make their move over to them so they could get closer to their idol.
“Baby we really need to go. I know you’re angry with me but things are starting to get a little hairy here.” Jon was getting a little nervous now.
“No we can go I’m ready, but we need to talk when we get back okay?” she asked him.
“Anything as long as we leave now.” He said relieved. It didn’t take long to get back to the hotel. It was a quiet drive back but at least they held hands and Jon was happy about that. Maybe she wasn’t as mad at him as he thought.
They got to their room to find the guys there. “Hey what are you guys doing here?” Jon asked.
“Just checking on you guys? Wanted to make sure that everything was okay?” David asked as the others shook their heads.
Jon looking around and knowing they truly were concern said, “Yeah everything is fine we just need to talk so if you guys don’t mind?” he told them nodding his head towards the door.
“Oh sure we’ll just leave you guys to talk. If you need anything well you know where to find us.” Richie said. They all said their goodbyes and left.
Mary went to sit on the couch as Jon walked up to her and squatted in front of her. He took her hands in his, “Baby I’m so, so sorry about earlier and at the park. I shouldn’t of yelled at you like that.” He told her.
“Jon shhh, it’s okay. I’ve been thinking and I should have talked it over with you first I know that. I wasn’t thinking. But in my defense I’m not use to having someone to answer to or make decisions with. It’s always just been me or my family you know?” she explained to him.
“Yeah I know, and you have to understand since I created the band what I was like twenty, twenty-one so I’ve always made my own decisions and the bands. So I’m just use to it. Plus I’ve been in relationships since I’ve been sixteen so I’m use to discussing things over with my partner. I really didn’t mean to yell at you like that but when you said you were going just like that and it was for your brothers all I could think was me getting a phone call saying you were hurt or worse…”
“Jon I know but it’s not always like that. And what happen those other times were because of Michael honey it doesn’t mean anything like that will happen again.” She said.
“But it doesn’t mean that it won’t.” he said really concerned.
“No I can’t say that it won’t its part of the job honey, but you have to trust me as I have to trust you when you tell me that you’re faithful. We both need to trust each other or this relationship isn’t going to work. You know I love you more than anything right?” she asked him.
He smiled at her, “Of course I do about as much as I love you why? Oh I get it you’re trying nicely to tell me even though we’re talking you’re going to go anyway aren’t you?” Jon asked a little sad.
“They need me. I’m still part of the team Jon and I can’t let them down. I hope you understand that?” she asked him hoping he would understand.
Looking down at their intertwined hands, “Unfortunately I do Baby. Doesn’t mean I have to like it do I?” he said softly.
She took her hand and cupped his cheek with it. “No you don’t have to like it just understand it.” She said. He looked up at her with a half-smile and took her face in his hands and kissed her but only lightly.
Then he broke the kiss and said “Well I suppose you have to make your arrangements then?” She nodded her head yes. She went and got her things that she needed and spent about an hour on the phone making arrangements with the airlines to see if she could get a flight out that evening but they didn’t have any flights out to San Diego until the late morning. Jon wanted to pay for her flight and there was almost another fight over that. She finally convinced him that she could pay her own way or at least when it came to her expenses. If he was coming with her then he could pay she told him that seemed to shut him up. After she booked her flight she called her brothers and told them when she was coming in so they would know when to pick her up.
When she hung up the phone Jon wrapped his arms around her waist and started nibbling on her neck. “Jon what are you doing?” she asked him giggling.
“Well if you don’t know then I’m doing it wrong.” He growled going back to what he was doing.
“Don’t be an idiot. I know what you’re doing but why? I thought you were angry with me?” asking again giggling.
Again growling “Does this look like I angry with you. No, more like I’m horny and with you leaving tomorrow I would really like to make love to you all night before you leave if that’s alright with you?” going back to what he was doing.
“No, no that’s fine with me Dear but do you think you’re up to it?” she asked giggling. Jon’s head went up thinking to himself that she thought she had got the better of him; he scooped her up and went into the bedroom.
They had made love til late morning when finally she had to tell him that she had to get ready to leave. He hated to let her go but he knew he had to. They had showered which she had to playfully slap him several times so they could keep it to a minimal time. She had packed the night before so she was okay there and Jon had ordered breakfast. They had just finished when the front desk called to tell them that her car was waiting for her to take her to the airport. “Are you sure you don’t want me to go with you?” Jon asked a little hurt.
“Sweetie if you go with me I’ll never get on that plane.” She told him with a half-smile.
“Well that’s what I was hoping.” He said as he grabbed her around the waist.
“Oh no you don’t pal.” she told him smiling.
“What did I do?” he asked innocently.”
“You know exactly what you’re doing. Your sex on legs.” She told him laughing.
“You said it I didn’t.” he said chuckling.
“Oh you have such an ego!” she said as she slapped his ass.
“Hey!” he yelped.
“Stop, I’ll miss you.” She told him as he went in for her.
“I’ll miss you more. Try not to get hurt or worse okay. I don’t think my nerves can take it.” He told her as he took her hand.
“I’ll try. God this is harder than I thought.” She said tearing up.
“Hey don’t cry because if you do then I will and then I’ll never live it down.” He said taking her and kissing her passionately.
“Now that should hold you til you get back to me. Plus we always have the phone Baby.” He said smiling.
“Oh My God Jon! Are you talking phone sex?” she asked him.
“Yeah sure why not? You’ve never done it?” he looked surprised.
“No?” she told him as she started to blush.
“Well then this should be fun. Now you better get going Baby they’re waiting for you.” he said opening the door for the porter who was waiting just outside the door.
“But Jon we need to talk about this.” She said meaning the phone sex.
“Sure Babe when you call me when you get safe and sound okay. Love you.” He told her.
“Love you too.” She said a little nervous and confused about leaving.
“Now hurry you’ll miss your plane.” He told her.
It only took her a couple of hours to get back to San Diego and A.J. had picked her up as promised. Their first stop was to their mothers where Rick was waiting for them. They had their family reunion and Cecilia wasn’t ready to let them go without having them stay for dinner. Mary had to remember to call Jon when they finished with dinner.  Meanwhile back with the guys Jon was a little down without having his girl with him so Richie and Dave were trying to think of things to pick him up.
“I told you guys I not going out. The last time I did I got in trouble Remember?” Jon said sarcastically.
“Well that doesn’t mean you have to do that again. Just hold your damn liquor will ya! You’re really getting to be a stick in the mud!” Dave basically yelled back annoyed.
Jon was about to give him a comeback when Richie interjected. “Kidd Dave’s right, you can still come out with us and still have a good time without getting smashed. Come on have a little fun will ya?” Richie asked.
Jon looked at them for a moment and said “No. I was going to spend a nice quiet evening alone with the phone and my girl on the other end, is that too much to ask?”
“YES! You’re becoming an old man. Do you really want her thinking you’re waiting by the phone waiting for her to call you? Man are you ….” Dave stopped right there before he could get the next word out because if looks could kill then Jon’s stink eye would have shot bullets right out of him.
“Don’t! Just Don’t Dave because the next word out of your mouth and I’ll kick your ass from here to Jersey in a heartbeat do you understand me!” Jon said through gritted teeth. Dave just stood there and didn’t move. He looked at Richie who was trying hard not to chuckle.
Then he spoke. “I’ll just leave the two of you alone then, see ya later.” And he left as fast as he could.
Jon looked at Richie and said “Do you believe the nerve of him! He’s just jealous that he doesn’t have anyone like her that’s all.” Jon was now ranting. Richie was now laughing at Jon. “What the hell are you laughing at?” he asked.
“Nothing Kidd. You do what you want.”
Just then there was a knock on the door. “If that’s Dave coming to apologize you can tell him to…” but before Jon could finish Richie had opened the door and Jon’s Parents had walked in with his brothers and a guest. ‘Oh what hell is this?’ Jon said to himself before greeting his family. He first saw his parents then his brothers. “Mom, Dad how are you?” he asked as he kissed and hug his mom and hugged his dad. Then he saw his brothers and just about as he was going to say Hi he saw her. He nearly fell over himself. Of all people why did his parents bring her with them. He was so thankful that Mary wasn’t there right at this minute. He turned around and saw the look on Richie’s face. Carol went to say hello to Richie but it took a minute for it to register.
“Richie I said Hello dear.” Carol said to him.
“Oh Mrs. B Hi I’m sorry I must of spaced out for a minute. How are you?” Richie said stunned.
“Fine dear just fine. Jon honey aren’t you going to say hello to Dorothea?” Carol asked her son.
“Yeah Hi Dot. Mom, Dad Can I talk to you in my bedroom for a moment please?” he asked his parents. They went into his bedroom and he closed the door. Richie knew this wasn’t going to be good. “Mom, Dad, What the Hell is she doing here?” Jon asked angrily.
“Jon calm down right this minute. She wanted to see you. Wanted to talk to you. I think she wants to get back together with you isn’t that wonderful?” Carol said joyfully.
“No Mom it’s not! I don’t want to get back together with her. You should have called me before you came here and brought her!” Jon said even angrier now.
“Jon that’s no way to talk to your mother or myself. Now what’s the problem?” his father chimed in.
“The problem is Mom you don’t listen. What did I tell you a month ago?” He asked her.
 “About what?” she asked.
“Oh I don’t believe this. I told you that I found someone very special and that I’ve been seeing her now for about four and half months now. Her name is Mary Simon.” Jon said really upset now.
“Oh that, are you still seeing her? I thought that would be over by now. Isn’t she that private investigator that was helping you and playing your girlfriend right? I thought that was over when the situation was over?” she told him in a huff.
Jon was about to explode. “NO! I explained that to you Ma. I love her and she loves me. What don’t you get?”
“Jon Dorothea loves you for you. This Mary right she knows what you can give her and what you make dear…”
“NO! Don’t say it, just don’t say it. She’s not like that and you don’t know her. And I won’t stand here and listen to this.” Jon said. He went opened his door and walked out to the living area. “Rich come on we’re out of here.” His parents had followed and went to say something to him but he had cut them off. “I suggest you find Rich B. he’ll fix you guys up with some rooms. I’m going out with the guys so don’t be here when I get back.” Jon told them. Around dinner time Jon and the guys had gone to a bar just to hang out and get away from his family and his ex-girlfriend. Unfortunately he wasn’t thinking that he had made her promise to call him later that night to make sure that she had made it safely and to just talk. His timing was off quite a bit and didn’t realize that his family had to wait for their rooms to get ready to be prepare for them so they waited in his room.
As the Bongiovi’s were waiting Jon’s phone rang. The Bongiovi men were watching the television and Carol was knitting. “Dorothea could you please answer the phone dear. It might be that man Rich letting us know that our rooms are ready.” Carol said to her.

Dorothea got up and answered the phone “Hello?”

Mary confused that a woman had answered Jon’s phone, “Yes is Jon there?”
Dorothea realizing that this could be Jon’s new girlfriend “No he’s not can I help you?”
“Sure could you tell him that Mary called and that I’ll try him later.” She told her not knowing whether Jon would get the message or not. “Oh and can I ask who you are I don’t remember Jon saying he was going out tonight.” Mary asked.
“Well why would he tell you? I’m his girlfriend I would know if he was going out or not but I’ll let him know that you called.” And Dorothea hung up the phone. Mary just stared at her phone dumbfounded. She was pissed beyond words. She wanted to call back the bitch and scream at her but she remembered a conversation she had with Jon before, they had a miscommunication with him about over reacting when she misinterpreted a phone call before that led to them almost breaking up. She would just have to wait til later to call him back and talk to him directly and find out what the hell is going on. Finally Rich had gotten them into their rooms and out of Jon’s. It had taken awhile for Rich to find three rooms for them and fortunately for Jon they were on the fourth floor away from the guys enough to give them their privacy. Carol wasn’t please though because she wanted to be on the same floor as her son but Rich knew enough not to because Jon would have had been pissed beyond words. So luckily there just wasn’t any rooms available anyway on his floor as he explained to her.
The guys didn’t get back until real late, more like early morning. Jon didn’t want to call Mary this late and wake her up. But he did hold up his promise and was a good boy and didn’t get smashed. He had a good buzz going so he was hoping he could get good night’s sleep. He thought he deserved it after the afternoon he had with the surprises visitors that had popped in on him. He dreaded the morning though knowing his mother would come barging in on him waking him from a deep sleep with her nonsense on what they were going to do for the day knowing he had a full one ahead of him. Mary on the other hand didn’t sleep all that well. She tossed and turned all night. The phone never rang during the night and there was no message for her when she got up in the morning. Why didn’t that surprise her? She knew that bitch wasn’t going to give Jon her message. On her way downstairs Cecilia stopped off at Mary’s room and asked her if she wanted breakfast but Mary had declined for now telling her that she wanted to try and call Jon before she came downstairs. Cecilia just let out a little laugh and left her to it. She must have picked up the phone about four different times before she actually dialed the hotel number. When they answered she asked for his room number and waited for him to pick up. At least she prayed that it would be him answering the phone. It rang several times before a very sleepy Jon answered.
 “Hello?” he said very tired.
 “Jon?” she said leary.
“Mary? Baby is that you?” he asked her.
“Yeah it’s me. How are you?” she asked him kind of afraid of the answer.
Sitting up in bed now “I’m fine now Baby, I’m sorry I didn’t call you last night but you’ll never guess what happened here. You still there?” he asked concerned.
“Yeah I’m still here.” She said softly.
“Hey what’s wrong?” he asked her concerned.
“Jon I called you last night.” She said still softly and her voice wavering a bit. Jon just took a deep breathe praying it wasn’t what he thought.
“So you called here uh? Must have been when I was I with the guys. They thought I needed to get away. Things here got a little crazy after you left. My folks popped in on me and brought my brothers with them. So I had Rich B. get them rooms so they had to stay here until their rooms were ready for them.” He started to explain to her.
“Really?” she said.
“Yeah I had a fight with my Mom so the guys took me out. But the funny thing was they weren’t alone. They brought my ex-girlfriend with them. Apparently my Mom thought that she could get us back together. The fight was over that and the fact that I’m seeing this beautiful, smart, funny, girl that I’m totally in love with. My mom said she doesn’t remember me telling her that we were still together but she only hears what she wants to hear. So today I have to do damage control and see if I can get rid of them nicely of course to at least send Dorothea back to New Jersey so when this girl that I love more than anything comes back to me there won’t be a cat fight over me.” He said trying very hard to make light of a heavy situation.
“Really? Well I’ve been tossing and turning all night because I called yesterday and talked to said Dorothea and to give you a message that I called. She told me she would give you the message when you got back but being your girlfriend I wasn’t really expecting her too.” She said as calmly as she could.
Jon was quite for a moment then said to her, “She told you what?!” he wanted to know.
“Oh didn’t you hear me that she was your girlfriend?” she said back sarcastically.
“Oh Baby I’m so sorry. I promise I’ll take care of it today. You’re not mad at me are you?” he asked her with his heart in his mouth.
“No Sweetie I’m not. I was just a little worried that’s all. I don’t even know why I was even worried. You told me to talk to you first before I made any conclusions and that’s what I was trying to do. So I called first thing this morning and asked you directly. See I didn’t even runaway or not talk to you. I confronted you first.” She said proud of herself.
“Well I’m glad you did Baby because it solved a lot of problems before hand now didn’t it. I’m proud of you. Now that we got that solved and I’m awake and your awake why don’t we try that thing we were talking about just before you left yesterday.” He laughed into the phone.
“JON! Now?” she giggled.
“Sure why not. If you want I can start.” He said getting excited now himself. He could hear her giggling really hard now. That was turning him on now even harder. He thought she was extremely cute; the only thing was he wished he could see her blushing. “How the hell am I supposed to do this with you giggling on the other end of the phone like this?” he asked her. But before she could answer him he could hear knocking on his door. “Oh you’ve got to be kidding me?” he said frustrated.
“What is it Jon? Oh it’s me your angry with me?” she asked getting upset.
“No, no Baby it’s not you believe me. There’s someone knocking on my damn door could you hold on a second?” he asked her.
“Sure.” She told him and hoped that she could hear what was going on.
He got out of bed and put on his shorts that he kept next to his bed and went to answer his door. He trudged through the living room. “I’m coming! Knock it off!” he yelled at whoever it was knocking. He opened the door and standing in front of him was his family with room service.
“Good morning dear we brought you breakfast.” His mother exclaimed.
He just stood there and stared at them in shock. “You’ve got to be kidding me. Do you even know what time it is mother?” he asked her before letting her in.
“Well of course I do it’s time to get up and eat. Look how skinny you are don’t you ever eat dear?” she asked him and pushed her way in while his brothers pushed in the cart as his father had escorted himself and Dorothea into the room. Poor Jon was only standing there in shorts and nothing else. “Jon dear go put some clothes on and sit and have breakfast with us you’re really not decent.” His mother told him.
Jon took a deep breath and mumbled a few choice words under his breath and walked back to his bedroom.  He picked up the phone “Baby can I get back to you and finish our um private conversation another time. I’m suddenly not in the mood any longer seeing that my family just barged in on us and brought me breakfast.” He said unhappily.
“Really, well I guess I’m kind of glad I’m not there for all this then. Doesn’t matter Mom’s waiting downstairs for me anyway. Call me when you can Sweetie okay. I Love You.” she told him.
“Not more than I Love You Baby. I’ll try calling you as soon as I can. Bye.” And he hung up the phone pissed off that he missed an opportunity with his girl that he was looking forward too. He changed into a t-shirt and jeans and went back out into the living room where everything was all set up to eat. His family had already started when he had entered.
“Come on Jonny you better start or your brothers will eat everything here.” His mother told him.
“That’s okay Mom I’ll just have a coffee for now.” He told her.
“Jon but…” he cut his Mom off.
“Mar I have my own thing okay just leave me be. How long are you guys going to stay because I’m pretty much busy for the next few days before we leave here.” He told them.
“Really we thought we could spend some time with you in between shows?” Carol asked him.
“Mom we have commitments in between shows you know that.” He said annoyed.
“Well won’t Doc let you this one time out of your commitments to be with your family?’ she asked him.
“I sincerely doubt that Mom. If it doesn’t have anything to do with the band then no.” he told her. While all this was going on Dorothea was making her way over to Jon and trying to cozy up to him. Jon wasn’t an idiot; he knew exactly what she was doing. When they had broken up she told him that she didn’t want anything to do with him again because he was spending too much time with the band, rehearsing, going out on the road and all the groupies that were surrounding them constantly. She had even suspected that he was cheating on her with said groupies when she didn’t accompany him when he went away on overnight gigs. Plus she told him that he was just wasting his time with this music thing and to get a real job so she told him that when he was done growing up to call her.
Jon had finished his coffee so Dorothea saw an in “Jon would you like some more coffee?” she asked him in her most flirty smile.
“Sure thanks Dot.” He said playing along.
“So Tony, Matty do you guys want to come with us later to sound check?” Jon asked his brothers.
Both at the same time to their parents “Yeah, could we, please?” they both yelled and pleaded.
John, Sr. looked and Carol who shook her head yes. “Well I don’t see why not.” John Sr. said.
“Great I’ll have Rich B. pick you guys up and take you over okay. I just have some radio interviews to do late this morning and into the afternoon with Richie so I’ll have to meet you over there.” Jon explained to them.
“Jon what about Dorothea? Why don’t you have her go along too?” Carol suggested.
“I don’t think she’ll like it Mom. She never liked it before did you Dot?” Jon asked.
“Well I don’t think I’d mind it.” She told him.
“Well I can’t just have someone drive you back if you get bored so you would be better off if you stayed here with my parents okay? Great. Now if you’ll excuse me I need to take a shower and get ready so if you guys don’t mind cleaning up and leaving because I need to talk to the guys just before I leave Thanks.” He said as he walked back to his bedroom.
Dorothea and his parents just stood there for a moment and stared at each other over what Jon had said. “Did he just kick us out John?” Carol asked her husband.
“Now dear it’s just that we barged in on him and he’s busy that’s all, don’t take it personal.” John told his wife.
“But you saw how he treated Dorothea.” Carol said not to happily.
“It’s okay Mrs. B. really.” Dorothea said.

“Carol I think Jon explained that also. You’re trying to play matchmaker and well Dorothea Jon has found someone special we explained that to you last night. And Jon is upset that you’re pushing poor Dorothea at him especially when we haven’t even met this young lady. Now let’s do as our son said so when he comes back out we’re not here and he doesn’t get angry.” John told his family.
